For the last few years, I have been trying to record a song for each day.
It is partially to help me remember the songs that I hear and love, but also part of a larger plan to help me pull out positives in a day, every day, when I was going through a difficult time.
(I initially started this by trying to record 3 Good Things each day. It meant that I ended up looking for the positive, not the negative in a day. As well as meaning that I did things specifically so that I could ‘count’ them. An excellent suggestion Aunt M!)
For 2021, I have decided to continue sharing them here. Hopefully a little more reliably.
Comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated 🙂
- There aren’t really any rules – it just has to be a song that I have heard that day or had a strong reaction to.
- If I hear a song multiple times in a week or on two or three consecutive days, I tend to end up picking that too.
- And if I haven’t found anything meaningful in a day, I will ask for recommendations from family or friends.
I’m still full of cold – clearly a bit more run down/relieved to have some normalcy restored than I had suspected. More importantly though, this was also the week when the sun started to shine again – in what felt was the first time in forever!
Am watching Lucifer on Netflix and messaging up a storm with Sel. And this track came at a very emotional moment and was genuinely lovely.
Wrong month again but nearly caught up!
Slowly but surely, I’m getting caught up – but I really need to start keeping a proper diary again – a fortnight out and I have no memory for what happened when. The house was quiet this week, work consistent and I saw puffins. So this was a very good week on the one hand. … Continue reading 2021 – SOTD – Week 20
Only a fortnight behind! Woo Hoo! The month of May has been a very busy one so far! My honey has returned! I am much much wiser (or have just had a birthday and prefer to pretend that then admit I’m merely older). Oooh and I’ve left Leeds on day trips, a visit and a … Continue reading 2021 – SOTD – Week 19
It’s been a long few weeks. 1. It’s the weekend and a bank holiday weekend at that. Huzzah, we are seeing it in with a G+Tonic and – for me anyway – a resolution to stay away from the news. Although I’m still a total snot-box (but like in a cute adorable way), I do … Continue reading 3 Good Things – Week whatever
At least I’m in the current month now 😀
Now a mere three weeks behind 🙂
Only 4 weeks behind myself now so posted without comment 🙂
Ummm, over a month behind now. It’s because I’ve been out having fun! How very dare I!! Mind you, I do feel more settled when I am able to reflect and blog and there hasn’t been much of that recently. Will try and get caught up this week and then back into business by next!
Suggested by Sel.
Posting without much by means of comments, again, as I am still so far behind. Some week though, you can clearly see what sort of a mood I was in. Other weeks are just…weird! This one was particularly absent rhyme or reason (in relation to my choices anyway!).
Whoops, I’ve had this sat here semi-prepped for at least three weeks now. Given we are into week 18 now, you’ll likely understand why I’m getting this up and out as quickly as possible with no comments!
And the sign said “long haired freaky people need not apply” We are out in the world! Very unexpectedly but it’s a joy! And having lots of deep and meaning conversation which culminated in F singing the chorus to this. Which – if you know us – is not that unusual. Protest songs live large … Continue reading SOTD – nominated by my housemate
By all rights, today’s SOTD should have been the bardcore version of Bad Romance (so pretty!) Then this one made me laugh so much! Land Down Under or the song I thought was Australia’s national anthem until I was about 11. Gullible ain’t the word! But in honour of the birthday boy, I’m going for … Continue reading SOTD – Back to the Bardcore!
Perpetually a fortnight behind myself!! Grr! As the weather has started to improve, I’m noticing an uptick in more cheery pop songs in the SOTD. I guess they’re easier to hear or pop out more when they aren’t at war with the environment! This month has been a long and I can’t deny, I’m looking … Continue reading 2021 – SOTD – Week 12
While scanning the Independent this morning, I came across an interesting sounding article and read it. “Nils Frahm ‘NFT’s are the most disgusting thing on the planet‘. I hat never heard of Nils Frahm prior to this article and know nothing about NFT’s so no idea why this in particular caught my eye, but there … Continue reading Invigorating start to the day – SOTD – Nils Frahm
My dads suggestion a few days back that has worked it’s way into my head.
Decided to get all caught up this evening and worry about actually thinking of something to say till tomorrow. Everyone else is getting that Friday feeling around mid-Wednesday, right? Can’t just be me.
For some reason, I seem to be consistently a fortnight behind myself when it comes to this! Apologies. So – sans comments, here you go!
Thank Heavens February has ended! Still, I’m able to head out most evenings for a stroll and even managed a visit to the allotment so woo hoo!
Two in one week! And I’m still a week behind – that’s right – we’re officially onto double digit weeks in 2021! This was one of those weird weeks where the vast majority of songs just happen to be from earlier phases in my life. Quite good fun but oooof, how can the 90’s be … Continue reading 2021 – SOTD – Week 8
A fortnight behind again! Eek! Once again, I’m staring at dates thinking – 14th of February – shouldn’t that ring a bell? But this month being what it was… Le sigh.
As promised yesterday. Today has been exhausting. Meetings for 6 hours!!! is too many meetings. Got a walk in though, Pilates for the first time in YEARS with X and caught up with D’elle. So…this isn’t a cheat blog, it’s totally a real informative post.
Not because I don’t have one! It’s just not released (for you people) until tomorrow. Remember that musical from this time last year – BLOG HERE? While I’ve had the chorus of Insane Animals (the song) in my head all day (“We are the insane animals, we are INSANE!”), I’ve also been leaning towards the … Continue reading SOTD – is an IOU from Insane Animals
This was that week that I have no recollection of – I mean, I could always read my own blog posts but come on!
In 1998, at the Grammies, Luciano Pavarotti was scheduled to perform one of his best loved songs – Nessun Dorma. Unfortunately, he took ill and was advised to rest. And then the Queen of Soul stepped in. Absolutely gorgeous!
Time is doing that weird thing again. I was dreading tonight thinking I was WEEKS behind myself but no…it’s just that the days are oddly longer now. Nothing is happening and it’s taking ages. Still, the days are getting longer, I’m hopeful that perhaps the snow might bugger off soon and … ummmm… other warm … Continue reading 2021 – SOTD – Week 5
My housemates were watching The Last of the Mohicans and I realised that the blonde daughter is Queen Calanthe from the Witcher! (Flashbacks to all my childhood princesses are generals now) Anyhoo, I’d totally forgotten that it was a Clannad song. The greatest hits cassette (I r old) was played TO DEATH by me as … Continue reading SOTD – Clannad – Do Na Dlo Sv
This was not an easy week to focus on much of anything, but I’m glad to have persevered as I think my musical choices have been very eclectic!!
Just heard two and a half seconds ago and I love it. I was introduced to a few of Dani Sylvia’s songs last year by X, but as of this evening, I’m going to pick up some of the eps! I’m quite convinced that this artist will become a household name in the near future. … Continue reading SOTD – Madly by Dani Sylvia
This week has been such a sorrowful one in my world. I’m feeling all the feelings and my routines are helping but nothing will ever be right again until I can go home and hug my people (and the ones here obviously). Today was a particularly low one and I really appreciated my attempt to … Continue reading 2021 – SOTD – Week 3
Cold, wet, snow and all the grouchiness that brings. Still, we are inching every closer to longer days – think by the end of the week, it’ll be about 2mins 50 seconds longer each day! Despite the snow (which left me housebound for two days), I’ve walked a lot this week, even venturing out to … Continue reading 2021 – SOTD – Week 2
X just sent me this. It’s a cover of the Gotye feat Kimbra song with a bardcore/medieval twist. So I clearly have a mew obsession to go explore.
Is 2021 over yet? Ok, I’m not quite there yet but what a hectic week! How can so much have occurred here and globally in such a short span of time.
On a whim, I set myself a Twitter watchalong challenge to watch Cats this evening. It’s been an experience. I have thoughts. And a persistent internal scream ‘WHHHHHHY????’ However, the original song by Taylor Swift fits beautifully into the musical so I’ve picked it as my SOTD.
